Polonsky’s Original Review of Figes

Published by DStone at 7:00 am under Academia, Contemporary, Historiography

Excerpts from Polonsky’s original harsh review of Figes, the thing that may have started this whole dust-up, have been posted here. Up to this point, as far as I know, the review hasn’t been available online.

I normally do not like Harry’s place at all. But, the Polonsky review’s two examples definitely look like Figes just reordered some words around in what are otherwise verbatium quotations. If he made no citation to the original than this is a pretty serious matter. I have failed students for such plagiarism. By the way Hosking was my internal examiner for my Ph.D. dissertation. I am not sure why Figes just did not block quote the two passages referenced by Polonsky.
